Hey guys! A post on a Wednesday Olivia? Yep, just for this week though as I did a poll on my twitter to see if any of you wanted to see this post and many of you did! 🙂 So this was a piece of work that I did but never submitted for a competition in my school. I thought here would be a nice place to share it and I hope that you like it! I named it ‘Lyrics To Life’ and you’ll see why later on in the piece. In the text I kinda wanted to focus on expectations and stigmas as it’s something that I feel passionate about so I hope you like it and would love to hear your feedback below!
LYRICS TO LIFE
The 21st Century, supposed to be revolutionary they said,
Expectations, upon expectations, on expectations.
Why not just let this century lead us to where we need to be instead of inflicting false hopes to try and fill us with glee,
We’re supposed to be growing, advancing and moving forward but at this moment in time we just seem to be going backwards.
People hiding behind masks and spitting words they don’t mean, spitting words that don’t reflect them to try and follow the latest trends.
And, I mean this is more common than you think, we’ve just become accustomed and don’t even flinch when someone says something we know they don’t mean.
Why pretend, why be false, why do this all?
Well, it’s what has to be done to fit in at school and,
If you don’t then you’re now an outsider, only because you didn’t smoke that blunt or drink that cider.
Then the social media rolls in and that contributes too,
With some seen as pretty and the others told to ‘shoo’.
Then bringing back those themes of others being superior,
This is ‘revolutionary’, well think again.
Now the mental illness rolls in bringing individuals down but then, being told they’re a bore because they frown,
And then it continues to worsen with that stigma, that dreaded stigma,
That young people ‘can’t’ or ‘don’t know’ stress and
I don’t mean the media, but the internal worries the over-analysis of,
Every situation and feeling as though your brain has to find a negative element to focus on each day to,
Over-shadow the positives when you thought you was okay.
It may be something so irrelevant, something so small,
Like not holding the door for someone at school which then,
Leads you to question what this person thinks of you, to if you we’re just perceived as being really rude until,
You finally work yourself up until you breakdown.
Then having to go to school or college and put on this brave face so people believe you are stronger than you are whilst trying not to seem fake.
Every day we get told to love and accept ourselves for who we are when it’s not just the media that holds us back, it’s ourselves,
Kids trying to stay up to date with the latest tracks,
Trying to learn the lyrics to the popular songs when they’re really,
Just trying to learn the lyrics for their life.
P.S: I had a GSCE options evening tonight ahhhhh scary stufffff! Also, I have been working on some art// drawings for some time now, would you like to see them? Byesies! Xxx
