Heya! Oh it has been really really sunny lately and it’s nice to see the summer weather finally kicking in! Summer is on it’s way! I never seem to find much time to read in between school work, socializing and extra curricular clubs/activities, but when I do sit down with a good ol’ book I really get into it. Recently, I’ve gotten through a couple of books and have loved them so I thought I would do a little lifestyle post on my recent reads! I’ve read a mixture of storybooks, lifestyle books and books more on the artistic side, so here are my favourite books at the moment and I do hope you like it and maybe get some inspiration for some books to read!
WONDER – R.J. Palacio
Now, where do I start with this book. It is one of the most inspirational, moving and intriguing books I’ve read. It’s about a little boy named August and who has never been to school before and is about to attend a public school, starting 5th grade, for the first time. His self confidence is knocked quite heavily when students make fun of his face and the way he looks. Wonder, I think, is mainly based around the societal pressures in the world currently and the fact that young children can be easily affected by the words of other people, but, also demonstrating that they can be mature and have the strength inside of them to get through their struggles. This book really does make you wonder ( no pun intended ) about what goes on in peoples heads and what they have to deal with behind closed doors and equally showing that looks really don’t don’t reflect what that person is like inside, ultimately reiterating the ‘don’t judge a book by it’s cover’ statement. (again, no pun intended since the book cover is really simple and the content inside is actually incredibly detailed! Ok imma stop with the whole pun thing now tehe!)
BE BEAUTIFUL – Alice Hart-Davis & Molly Hindhaugh
This book is a beauty related book but not just your typical makeup orientated handy guide, it’s more aimed at teens and in my opinion quite a confidence booster! It includes little Q&A’s answering some common questions on each topic such as ‘Can you use mayonnaise as conditioner?’ and many more. Its quite a casual read and you can kinda flick through to the parts that you’re most interested in which I quite like. The book helps you tackle things such as split ends and skincare troubles and how to deal with them according to your hair type or skin type for example. There is even a little guide on what colour you should die your hair depending on your current hair colour. I love the DIY’s featured too, but I won’t give anymore away!
COLOUR ME CREATIVE – Kristina Webb
OMG no words are going to be able to justify my love for this book! I am such a massive fan of Kristina Webb, who is a young female artist and she is honestly so inspirational! I absolutely loovve drawing because I just find it so therapeutic and you can express so much in one piece of artwork. Kristina’s drawings are so colourful and so intricately detailed too. I was so so excited when she brought out a book and couldn’t wait to see what was inside. It’s just incredible as you find out all about her life and what growing up on the other side of the world was like. My favourite parts of the book would have to be her early life growing up, her exchange program experience, all the lovely photos included and the little drawing tasks in between each story that she tells. Although, I have been a tad bit too scared to do many of the drawing tasks, in case I made a mistake! (whoops!) But if you are a creative or art lover like me, then this book is the perfect read!
So I hope you enjoyed this kinda recent reads post and if you would like me to make this a monthly post then just let me know in the comments below! I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend, are happy and smiling and I shall speak to ya all next week!
P.S: I forgot to include the book ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ and I have made a promise to re-read the entire book series this summer as it’s just so amazing! (shout-out to Ellie for introducing me to the book!) What is your ultimate favourite book? Byesies! Xxxx
